Jacqui Verellen is a country singer/songwriter from small town Kent-Bridge, Ontario. Being surrounded by music as a child, Jacqui remembers having a restless passion for music and song. She began songwriting at the age of 5 and has written hundreds of lyrics since. “Country music has always been in my blood. Many of my relatives are musical, and my parents used to blast classic country on the radio.”

Jacqui taught herself to play ukulele, piano, guitar and flute, and believes that her family’s love for music was what inspired her to start singing. Music led her to perform in plays and groups as a child. Most notably she played roles such as Fantine in Les Mis, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, and most recently Cinderella in Into the Woods. She also enjoyed performing Hank Williams, Dixie Chicks, and Shania Twain covers by the bay. “My parents would take me each summer, to compete in local singing contests, and I wore the same “lucky” cowgirl boots every chance I could.” Jacqui’s love for performance led her to become a titleholder in numerous vocal, acting, dance, choral and songwriting competitions. Her efforts later led to her to win the Golden K Kiwanis Bowl, and to graduate from The University of Western with an Honours Opera Performance degree. “Although I deeply appreciated opera, I found myself travelling to Nashville during the school year to slowly record my music. This told me what my heart truly wanted to create.”

Jacqui created country music outside of her studies and was notably a finalist in the International Songwriting competition, a runner up in the CBC songwriting competition, Youth Talent Search Canada competition, and a top 12 contestant in the CMT songwriting competition. Jacqueline was the overall vocal and acting winner, at the CMTC Canada wide contest in Toronto. Jacqui now resides in Toronto where she performs with her amazing band, and continues to piece together her debut country EP. She is very excited to finally be releasing “Home is home,” and other originals in 2017, and hopes audiences will connect to her message about the importance of one’s roots.
